Reading:
Quarter 1: Students will read about overcoming learning challenges around the world. We will read fiction texts set in different countries in order to explore culture. This module focuses on summary, answering questions, characters and setting.
Quarter 2: Students will study frogs and porquoi narratives. The unit will conclude with students writing their own porquoi narratives to answer a WHY question about frogs. Students will also create trading cards as they research a frog or toad they are interested in.
Quarter 3: Students will study the water cycle and learn that water is all around us! We will read many nonfiction books and practice research strategies like locating information in order to answer questions.
Inquiry:

Quarter 2: Students will study government in social studies and human body in science.
Quarter 3: Students will study geography in social studies and the solar system in science.
Quarter 4: Students will study NC History in social studies and the water cycle in science.

Quarter 2: Addition and subtraction to 1,000
Quarter 3: Perimeter, area and graphs
Quarter 4: Fractions and measurement
